When you have unsightly weeds in your garden, you have numerous options on how you are going to undertake it. You can use up herbicides, home-made solution, organic weed killer or do it manually. Weeds can grow even in the most terrible form and they can proliferate really fast. That’s the reason, it is essential to act at once once you notice these weeds sprouting in your own yard.

Herbicides are one of the quickest way to stop weeds and they can either be selective or non-selective. Selective types are the kinds that damage only identifiable weeds, while leaving desirable plants safe. They can be applied in places with mixed growth where the wanted plants are in the same area as the weeds such as the lawn, crop lands and garden. Non selective herbicides are the ones that eliminate not only the weeds but all types of plants that it touches. They are best use to clear of areas such as the railways, walkways and waste grounds.

Another division of herbicides is post emergent and pre emergent weedkiller which is based on when they can be used. Pre-emergent, as the name suggests are applied on the places to stop weeds from growing in the first place. They do this by killing the root system before the weeds even germinate. Post-emergent, on the other hand wipe out the weeds once they have show up. They are best applied when the weeds are actively growing and not when they are in their dry (semi-dormant) stage.

Natural weedkiller is a a great choice if you want to use something that is earth friendly, toxic free and more affordable. If you are not comfortable using herbicides, around your garden, then this is the best choice for yourself. The wonderful news is these types of weedkillers can be made straight right-away in your home and you might already have one in your house now.

Some examples of weedkillers that are commonly found in a household are vinegar,salt and dishwashing liquid. You have got to be careful though as these are non-selective, so they would destroy everything they are used on. Other home-made weedkillers are lemon, lime and other citrus fruits as they include acetic acid that has the strength to kill weeds .

If you have the time, you can also just plainly pull out the weeds once you see them emerging. Establishing it as a regular habit, like a few minutes a day of weeding is possible. You can also mulch to stop the growth of weeds in your vicinity. You can cover the areas with about two or three inches of gravel, wood chips and shredded barks. Another helpful method is to soak weeds with boiling water, the heat can without doubt destroy it. Corn gluten is a natural pre-emergent weedkiller that also serve as a fertilizer when it breaks down, supplying nitrogen to the plants.

So once you see the weeds starting to grow in your lawn, take your choice, a chemical weed killer or a natural weed killer. It’s all depends on your own style and preference. Bear in mind, the earlier and faster you attack the weeds in your lawn and garden, the easier and simpler it is to to destroy them.
