PEX Pipe: A Few Practical Uses

Published by under Uncategorized

One construction material that is found in almost every home is cross-linked polyethylene, or PEX pipe work. This piping has a multitude of practical uses. It is an excellent, cost effective alternative to PVC and other materials used in piping projects.

This material is mostly used in things like hydronic radiant heating mechanisms. It can also be found in water popes. Insulation for high voltage cables is another use for it.

This piping is a little cheaper than most other types of piping like PVC and CPVC. That is why it is used most often nowadays. Installers also like it because it is pliable. You can move it easily to fit where you need it to go.

PEX was first made in the 1930s by lightening an exposed tube with an electron beam. This process was made possible in the 1960s, but was still very expensive. In the 1960s, a new method was developed. The Engel method called for cross linking to occur while the exposed piece went through a hot iron die.

Piping is named by classification. Each country has its own. It is usually classified by use and size. There are sometimes other variables involved in the sorting of these pipes.

With the pipes being so flexible, it has become the standard in plumbing projects for new buildings and houses. Some homeowners even turn to it when they have to upgrade old pipes. When the pipes are used for this, they are color coded. Red represents hot water. White or blue is usually standard for cold water.

Hydronic radiators are also turning to this method. If room allows, piping can be carried throughout an entire house. Since it is such a cheap material to make, those in construction vie for using it over PVC piping. It’s more practical in obscure pipe requirements.

Dental hygiene uses it too. Specialists use it for specific procedures. One of those procedures is in fillings. Sometimes it might be used in other things as well. One such other project may be a fitting for braces.

There are a few projects that you will not want to use this material. These projects will need to use a different source for pipe work. These are the project done outside.

PEX does not do well in direct sunlight. The heat and chemicals in the sun causes the material to weaken. If you are going to use this piping outside, make sure that you have it protected from the sunlight.

No matter what your pipe needs, its evident that PEX piping is going to be used. In new houses, this is especially true. The material is cost effect, and it does the jobs it is meant to do efficiently. There is no mistaken the benefits of a reliable material.
