3 Things Your Gardener Doesn’t Want You To Know

Watering Is Very Important If you want to keep your yard looking good, you have to keep it watered well. Some cities, states, or even certain parts of the country to do not receive ample amounts of rainfall to keep a lawn well watered and moisturized. In addition, there may be seasons over a period of time where little or no rain occurs in an area. This is when you must jump in and do what Mother Nature is not doing and turn on your sprinklers to water your lawn. The following are some tips that should help you when doing this:

1. Be on the lookout for the color of your grass. Healthy grass will be a rich green color and will not have any patches of yellow straw-like grass. Plants should stand up tall and should have green leaves as well.

2. You should water your lawn during a specific time of day when it is coolest. This can be either early in the morning or later on in the evening just after the sun sets.

3. You should water your lawn at least once a week and at least two times during a drought.

4. Try not to drown your grass. While you can kill your grass by not watering it, you can also kill it by over watering it. To avoid doing this, measure the amount of water that you are sprinkling over your lawn by using either a rain gauge or by using a tuna can or plastic bowl. Then just measure the amount of water in the bowl. Your lawn only needs between 1 and 1.5 inches of water a week.

Get Rid of Weeds and Fertilize Getting rid of weeds is really important as well; not only do they look bad, but they are also unhealthy, so either weed eat them or pull them out by hand. In addition, you should use a little fertilizer, preferably one with a combination of nitrogen phosphates and potash. The best time to fertilize is in the spring.

After you’ve done your spring fertilization, you can go back and fertilize again in the summer as a part of maintenance. You can also incorporate a fertilizer with weed control at this point.

Aerate Your Lawn It is important to use your lawn aerator regularly. What is an aerator? It is a tool that will help turn the soil and create holes in the top portion of the soil so that grass roots can get enough water and air. This also allows earthworms (which are a natural form of fertilizer) in to do their work.

You want to use your aerator during the autumn and spring and only use it when your soil is damp. You should also use it just before planting seeds in your lawn or garden for optimal growth. Using your lawn aerator on a regular basis will help you to create a beautiful lawn, garden and landscape.

These are just three tips that will keep your lawn and garden healthy and beautiful and also keep the lawn and garden person away.
