Advice on Buying a Shed

Today no longer when a person wants sheds for their homes do they need to use the services of a builder to give them what they need. Instead, what they can do is go to their local hardware or DIY store and purchase a shed kit. The other place to look for such kits is online.

As you will soon discover for yourself there are numerous different types, styles and sizes of sheds that one can choose from. You can have ones that are specifically built to store all your gardening equipment in or one that your children can use as playhouse or summerhouse.

As well as sheds coming in different designs, they are also made from a wide range of different materials as well. For those who want to add a touch of elegance and natural beauty to their garden then those made from cedar wood are perfect. However, these are quite expensive and need a high level of maintenance as well. But for those who want something practical and easy to care for those made using metal (galvanized steel) or PVC vinyl are the perfect options.

Just by going online, you will soon be able to see the various different types of sheds available and which of these is going to meet your own particular requirements. However, it is important that you take a number of things into consideration before you make your purchase and below we look at what some of these are.

First of all, you need to clarify with your local authority if you have to obtain building approval before erecting the shed you have chosen. Although most sheds do not need such approval there are some, depending upon their size and the material from which they are constructed which means approval needs to be sought first.

Secondly, you need to ensure that you have the right sort of equipment to actually build the shed. In most cases, you will find that many kits have all the right materials in order for you to build them, but you will need to have some other tools such as screwdrivers and hammers as well.

Also, you need to decide what kind of base the shed is actually going to be standing on. Most people prefer to have a concrete base as the foundation for their shed. If you are going to go down this route then you need to budget in the cost of either laying the base yourself or getting someone else to lay the base for you.

Finally, before you actually start constructing your sheds you should first read through the instructions that are provided with it carefully. Also, it is a good idea to lay out everything to ensure that you have all the necessary parts and can complete the build easily and efficiently.

As you can see, there are a wide number of uses for sheds and they are also available to buy online. Another good use is for garden tool storage as they are available in many different sizes to suit your needs.

How To Build A Simple Lean To Shed From Easy to Follow Plans

Most of us find we don’t have enough room to store all our possessions. If this is your problem, you are certainly not alone. We always seem to be acquiring more “things”, and as our family expands so does our need for more more storage space.

In my own case, we ran out of room to store firewood. We had always stored the winter firewood in the garage, but this space gradually became taken up with bikes, toys and other stuff that you accumulate when you have kids. It even got to the stage where we couldn’t fit the car in the garage, there was so much stored in there. I decided we definitely needed more storage room.

As winter got closer, it became obvious that we desperately needed a place to keep the firewood we would use during these coldest days.

My wife looked at some shed plans online and we both realized that it would be a cheap and easy solution to our problem to constuct a small lean to shed from some plans she found. What I liked most about this lean to shed plan was that it could fit right up against the wall near our back door and I could build it out of similar materials to the house so it looked great. This meant all the firewood wuld be nice and close to the house, right where we needed it most. No more braving the snow and wind to bring in the firewood!

Surprisingly there are lots of different designs for lean to sheds, depending on what purpose you want it for. Some can be built with doors at the front, so you can even store pesticides and garden chemicals without worrying about the kids or pets getting hold of them. There are lean to shed plans for all sorts of purposes, including lean to garden sheds, and even a lean to shed plan for storing house pool or spa chemicals.

I eventually found a simple lean to plan online, which I was easily able to adapt to suit exactly what I wanted. The plan I chose was very easy to follow, and it ensured I didn’t leave out any important parts! For example, because I was building the lean to against the house and not free standing, the plan showed me how I could adapt the structure and still make sure it was strong enough to support the roof and doors, and I also learnt a simple technique that explained to me how to waterproof my lean to shed correctly.

My family has been really happy with the extra storage, and now I can easily fit the car in the garage again. I really enjoyed learning how to build a shed plus I saved a lot of money doing it myself. As long as you spend time on the planning and preparation, it’s not difficult building your own shed, and the satisfaction you get from it is very rewarding. My eldest wants a couple of new surfboards next, so I think I might have to build another lean to shed before we run out of room in the garage again!
