Take Care Of Your Home Plumbing System

Home improvement and maintenance is very essential. You need to look after every aspect of your home. Everything requires regular maintenance in order to work efficiently for years and home plumbing system is one of the most important aspects of your home that requires proper care. Here we will learn about things that should be checked after a fixed time.

Prepare a list in your mind of all the pipes and faucets where water supply goes in your home so that you can check all of them. It includes all the water pipes of your house, all the faucets, shower head, bathtub, laundry facility (washer, utility sinks and drains) etc.

First of all check the water pressure. Water pressure means the force with which water comes out of sink faucets and shower heads. Low water pressure can be a sign of sediment build up in the faucet or shower head. Problem in the water line could also be a cause of it. Accumulation of sediment on shower head may also cause a lower water pressure.

Check drain of each sink, shower and tub for the speed of drainage. Slow drainage normally indicates a clog in the drain. When water is draining, if bubbles appear in it then it is a sign of some problem. To check all the faucets in your home, turn on all of them to see if there is any water coming out of the handles and valves.

In toilet, check the flushing handle and inner parts of it. Start the flush to make sure that it is flushing properly. Check the parts inside the tank of the toilet to see if any parts are broken, rusted or missing. Ensure that the toilet water does not continue to run after flushing.

Loose, hollow or cracked tiles around the sink/shower point towards a leakage. Also check if the caulking of tub, shower and sink is proper or not because it can also cause leakage of water.

For checking your water heater against rusting, check the flakes of rust inside the burner chamber. Presence of rust chips inside proves that it has rusted. If flame color of the water heater is yellow then it is time for cleaning the jet. To eliminate sediment from the heater, drain it on regular interval of time.

If you will run this checklist once or twice in a year then you can make your home plumbing system efficient and prevent the occurrence of any big problem. It can save a lot of money for you that would otherwise be wasted in repairing any big problem. Hence, inspecting home plumbing system periodically is very essential.
